Indra's Net
(see also Ubuntu, Wisdom and other keywords)
The many versions and interpretations of Indra's Net derive from an East Asian Buddhist figure, or metaphor.
Imagine you are inside a vast, circular building and you look up to find that the ceiling is a dome. Fixed to the underside of the dome are millions of very shiny pearls. This means that every pearl reflects every other pearl, ad infinitum. In the Huayan tradition, Indra's net is "adopted as a metaphor for the manner in which each thing that exists is dependent for both its existence and its identity upon every other thing that exists." (Van Norden & Jones, 2019).
