Talk summary
The more we know about the climate and nature crisis, the more overwhelming it is. It’s easy to feel that the forces of the fossil fuel industry, polluters, developers, dysfunctional politics and free-market capitalism are stacked against us. We desperately need visions of the alternative, a brighter future that protects people and planet. Dorothy Stein will take us on a whistle-stop tour of collective approaches like doughnut economics, degrowth, eco-socialism, co-ops … taking us to Olúfémi Táíwò’s idea of worldbuilding. This is a practical and positive vision that starts here and now, living our values, working on the things that matter to us a community level. All of our speakers in Green Conversations series are part of this, telling us about how they are building the world they want to see.
Dorothy Stein
Dorothy ran a greentech company, researched climate journalism at Birkbeck and campaigns on climate, environment and air quality. She is part of Fare Free London, campaigning for free public transport for all and is starting a new media co-op – local news with a climate lens.
