A Pedagogic Vision
Education re-imagined
- In an ideal education system, universities would see their purpose as helping us adapt to our shared habitat.
- The ultimate purpose of universities would be to cultivate a net, global synergy-of-synergies.
- In this new paradigm universities would resemble living creatures rather than factories.
- (i.e. in other words they would be more autopoietic and less allopoietic)
Ecologically attuned
- Universities would become altruistic facilitators of learning rather than paid arbiters of competence.
- They would work towards our planetary survival by brokering reciprocal learning partnerships.
- Learning would be seen as a by-product of helping others to create a more convivial world.
Radically learner-centred
- Treating individual learners as exceptional individuals would enable them to know what they like.
- Encouraging greater self-awareness would provide a basis for attending to the needs of others.
- Bespoke education for all would mean curricular planning is creative, chaotic, or redundant.
- Specialist teachers would become animators and catalysts within a team learning process.
- Fostering personal curiosity creative and imaginatively would encourage autodidacticism.
Playful purposive
- By welcoming play would encourage new ways to learn how to learn.
- By understanding why different people think differently, they would learn how to collaborate.
- By become more able to survive in the job market.
- value learning with a diversity of learners.
- By reimagining itself society would change
